Dwayne Lee Upshaw, 2:00 PM, Friday, March 23, 2018


Dwayne Lee Upshaw, of Moore, Oklahoma, passed away March 9, 2018, at the age of 71.  He was born February 23, 1947, in Oklahoma City, to Henry James & Cora (Huffman) Upshaw. 

Dwayne married the love of his life, Linda Sue Colvin on October 16, 1965, in Oklahoma City.  Dwayne was a devout Christian and was a Baptist preacher.  He didn’t pastor a church, but he preached and shared the Word of God to his family, friends and witnessed to numerous people he didn’t know.  He was a student of the Bible.  Dwayne not only read the Bible, but, studied it with great passion.  He enjoyed fishing and a good discussion about world history, religion and politics.Dwayne had a great sense of humor and he loved a good practical joke.He taught his grandchildren how to shoot pool and darts, and used the opportunity to teach them math and geometry.  Dwayne proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era.  He was a true leader and was in the Big Red 1 and the TET Offensive.  Dwayne received an Honorable Discharge for services rendered to his country when called upon to do so.  His first love was his Lord and Savior, his family whom he cherished and loved spending time with, especially his grandchildren which he had a special nickname for each one. Dwayne will be genuinely missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Linda, of the home in Moore; 2 daughters, Sheila Kedigh & husband, Paul, of Del City, and Yvonna Youngblood & husband, Randy, of Yukon; 7 grandchildren, Zach, Jennifer, Eli, Brooke, Ashley, Blake, and Ty; 4 great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Zane, Kylie, and Valor; and a host of friends.  Dwayne is preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Cora Huffman. 

Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, March 23, 2018, at Fort Sill National Cemetery, in Elgin, OK.  Arrangements provided by the John M. Ireland Funeral Home and Chapel, Moore, OK.
