William Dee Carroll

William Dee Carroll was born in Charleston, Arkansas, on November 30, 1946, to Dee and Louella Tharp Carroll.  He spent his early life growing up in Sebastian County, Arkansas, and in 1952 at the age of 6, his family moved to Liberal, Kansas.  He graduated from Liberal High School in 1964.  He met the love of his life Kathryn Mary Craig Carroll and they were married and had two sons, William Lee and Timothy Edward. 

William Dee Carroll joined the United States Navy in 1966, where he was attached to VA-37 at Cecil Field serving with Attack Squadron 37 aboard the U.S.S. Kittyhawk.  He was honorably discharged in 1971 at the rank of ADJ2 Aviation Machinist’s Mate (Jet Engine Mechanic) Petty Officer 2nd Class.  His commendations include National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.  After his service in the U.S. Navy, he began work in the oil and gas industry working for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline for over 30 years. During his time with Panhandle Eastern, he worked his way up from the mail room to field supervisor.

Husband, Dad, Papa, Brother, Uncle, Friend – these are all the affectionate terms of endearment that William D. Carroll was known by.  He was an avid golfer and played the game he loved four times a week.  He was so proud of improving his shooting to a score consistently in the 80s with a handicap of 10.  Another activity he learned to enjoy in the last few years was walking and running.  He was so proud of the number of steps he would record on his Fitbit daily. He completed two 5k runs while in his 70s. The last 5K he ran he placed 1st in the 70-74 age group with a time of 44:45. He was an adamant defender of the Second Amendment and was honored when he completed his conceal carry class and earned his carry permit. 

William was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Carroll; Father, Dee Carroll; mother, Louella Tharp Carroll, and two infant siblings, Robert Lee and Donnie Sue.  William is survived by two sons and their wives, William Lee and Terri Carroll; Timothy Edward and Jenifer Carroll.  He is also survived by several grandchildren:  Kristopher and Britney Carroll, Zachary and Kylie Carroll, Craig and Courtney Carroll, Gracen Carroll, Isaac Carroll, and Kiser Carroll.  Great grandchildren included Kamden and Colten Carroll; Charlie and Connor Carroll. William is survived by the following siblings:  Donald Carroll, Betty Gray, Pat and Tommy Alarid, Bob and Anita Carroll. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces.
