Tom Dean Challis, age 60, died in his home in Oklahoma City on September 11, 2020. Tom was a member of the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma. He was a 1978 graduate of Moore High School and an alumni of Rose State College. He worked in retail and banking before finding his true passion working in the non-profit sector. He had won multiple awards for his country and western dancing. As an active member of the Central Oklahoma Parrothead Association, Tom was involved in countless fundraisers for local organizations and an ambassador of the Oklahoma craft brewery and winery industries.
He is survived by his four children, Tom Challis of Guthrie, Michael Challis of Moore, Dancy Challis of Texas, and Devan Challis of Texas; two grandchildren, Trinity and Thais Challis of Moore; his father, Bill Challis of Moore. He is also survived by three sisters, Sharon (Daniel) McCoy of White, Georgia, Kathy (Bill) Barrett of Moore, and Joyce (Mark) Allison of Keller, Texas; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Challis.
Memorial services will take place at the First Indian Baptist Church of Moore on Friday, September 18 at 10 a.m. with Brother Victor Cope officiating and assistance by Brothers Daniel McCoy and Bill Barrett. A private family internment at Moore Cemetery will be held at a later time. In memory of Tom’s involvement in COPA, tropical floral arrangements are available from New Beginning Florist in Moore for those wishing to celebrate his life.
