With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Thanya Kirby, age 80, who went to be with her
Heavenly Father on March 29, 2021. Thanya was born on May 17, 1940 to Arthur and Leta Prock in
Hollis, Oklahoma. She grew up with her 5 older brothers on the family farm in Hollis which her
grandfather homesteaded in 1907. She married her best friend, Clyde Kirby, after graduating from La
Casa High School in 1957. Together, they shared a lifetime of memories, having known one another and
becoming friends at a very early age. Clyde and Thanya were married for 62 years and raised 4 children
together. Thanya was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She
treasured her family and embraced them with a gentle, steady strength and dedication that carried
them throughout their lives.
Thanya was a talented quilter and enjoyed creating beautiful quilts for her family and friends. All that
received one knew that she made it with a heart full of love. She served as a volunteer by donating her
time and skills, crafting much needed blankets for babies in the neonatal intensive care unit at local
hospitals. She and Clyde lived their lives in Christian faith as members of various churches of Christ. As a
Sunday school teacher, she showed children how to honor and appreciate the love God has for them
and brought joy to countless students through a puppet ministry that lasted for many years at Britton
Road Church of Christ. Thanya’s life was a living example of her favorite Bible verse Philipians 4:13: “I
can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Thanya had an avid interest in gardening and loved filling her gardens with exquisite flowers of all
varieties. Springtime was her favorite time of year as she watched her flowers bloom and her yard come
to life. She enriched the lives of those around her in so many ways. She made each person in her life feel
special and important. She was and always will be deeply loved by those blessed to know her. After
retiring as an Administrative Assistant with the State of Oklahoma’s DHS division in 2001, she and Clyde
spent time traveling throughout the United States seeing the nation and making friends along the way.
