Sean Sumpter Obituary

Sean Anthony Sumpter was born on April 1, 1993, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to his proud parents, James Joseph Sumpter and Tonja Rae (Rhind) Sumpter. On March 23, 2024, he passed away from this life far too soon at the age of 30. Sean’s family and friends are deeply shocked and saddened by his sudden passing but are comforted knowing he is now reunited with his dad, who preceded him in death in January of 2021, and with his paternal grandparents, Jim and Margie Sumpter, both of whom passed away recently.

Sean’s legacy of love and adventure will be fondly carried forward by his family. He is survived by his mother, Tonja Sumpter, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two brothers, Robert Shannon Spragg and his wife Kendra of Frontenac, Kansas, and Tyler Sumpter of Edmond, Oklahoma; as well as his life partner and love of his life, Karina Gomez.

Sean never met a stranger. So friendly and kind, he could make friends with anyone, anywhere. Truly dedicated to everything he did, he had an unmatched zest for life and was the kind of guy who lit up every room he walked into. With an entrepreneurial, “mind-over-matter”, can-do mindset, Sean was always dreaming up new lucrative business ideas to pursue. After graduating from U.S. Grant High School in 2012, Sean went to work for Aerobraze Engineered Technologies as a Welder, a career he enjoyed and thrived in for many years.

Called a “beautiful person, full of life and stamina”, Sean was athletic, strong, and enjoyed staying fit. He liked to work out, lift weights, go for runs, and spend time practicing martial arts like Jiu-Jitsu. He also loved to cook and was known for his amazing Mexican food. An adventurous soul with a thrill-seeking edge, Sean loved riding his motorcycle, and he absolutely loved traveling anywhere and everywhere with his sweetheart Karina, especially when they could book a trip to Vegas or go anywhere featuring a beach and an ocean view. He was closely bonded to his family and loved hanging out with his brothers, and he had so many friends, always treasuring the quality time he spent with the people he loved. He had especially fond memories of watching Seinfeld and All in the Family reruns with his mom.

As we honor the life of Sean Anthony Sumpter, we are reminded of the enduring impact he leaves on the hearts of his family and friends. He was a loving companion, son, brother, nephew, and a loyal friend to many.  He will be very deeply missed.
