Ruth Heavener of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed from this life peacefully, going to her eternal home in Heaven on November 12, 2023, at the age of 85. She was born Ruth Lavon Emerton in Heavener, Oklahoma, on December 29, 1937, to James Emerton and Tina (Mankin) Emerton. She married the love of her life, James Heavener, in Poteau, Oklahoma, and the couple were happily married for 60 years.
Ruth enjoyed spending her time sewing, crafting, gardening, and cooking. She loved making homestyle favorites for her family, things like her famous chicken and dumplings and homemade desserts. Ruth was also a huge fan of OU football and loved to read. Often found with a new romance novel in her hand, Ruth collected tons of books over the years, a closet-full, in fact. Ruth loved nothing more than taking care of her family and being with the people she loved. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished her family, always their biggest cheerleader. She loved being there for her grandchildren’s sports and activities and was so proud of each and every one of their achievements. Ruth’s sweet, kind heart touched the lives of so many. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Tina and James Emerton, her husband, James Heavener, two sons, Jimmy and Mike Heavener, and one grandson, Skyler Hall.
Left to cherish Ruth’s memory are four children, Pam Cook and her husband Roger, Phylis Barton, Peggy Adams and her husband David, and Patti Hall; her grandchildren, Amber Magee, Kim Cook, Russell Cook, Roger Cook, Matt Fallon, Brooke Matthews, Travis Adams, Caiti Hall, and Austin Hall; along with her great-grandchildren Kailee, Brooklyn, Sophia, Cooper, Tucker, and Leighton, and many other loved ones.
