Roy Grooms Obituary

Roy Junior Grooms, of Oklahoma City, passed away on April 27, 2021, at the age of 73.  He was born September 7, 1947, in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Roy was drafted into the United States Army at the age of 18, and served for 2 years during the Vietnam Era, and received the Bronze Star for “Heroism,” and an Honorable Discharge for services rendered to his country when called upon to do so.  He worked for National Linen and retired after 35 years of service.  He started out in Lawton, then became the supervisor for Oklahoma City and Tulsa areas.

He thoroughly enjoyed going to the horse races at Remington Park.  Roy loved college football, and was an avid Oklahoma Sooners fan, and loved watching OU football and softball.  He loved to eat, and chili dogs, beans, and bologna & cheese sandwiches were his favorites.  Roy loved watching movies, and his favorites were Elvis Presley and John Wayne movies.  He was a huge Elvis fan and had a huge amount of Elvis memorabilia, which included articles about him as well as all of his music.    Roy was very funny and loved to tell a good joke – he loved making people laugh.  He was all about his family and spending time with them.  His greatest accomplishment was raising his sons, Michael and Steven – they were his world, and he took great care of them.  Roy was an amazing Dad and Paw Paw and will be deeply missed.

Roy is survived by 2 sons, Michael Wayne Grooms & wife, Candice Hall, of Oklahoma City, and Steven Alan Grooms, of Moore; 4 grandchildren, Brentyn Grooms, of Midwest City, Bryce Grooms, of Oklahoma City, Kylee Grooms, of Oklahoma City, and Lexi Grooms, of Moore; 1 sister, Karen Saums, of Oklahoma City; 2 brothers, Ed Grooms, of Duncan, and James Prince, of Oklahoma City; and nephew, Tommy Kyle, of Houston, Texas.  He is preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Prince; 2 brothers, Ben Prince and JD Grooms; 2 sisters, Clarice Mitchum, and Ann Clay; and niece, Karla Kyle.
