Richard Schweikhart Obituary

Richard "David” Schweikhart, 66, of Oklahoma City, passed away on December 1st, 2020 in his home, with the love, comfort, and support of his family and close friends during and within the preceding days leading into his final rest.

Born to Richard Carl and Virginia Ruth Schweikhart on June 22, 1954, in Hendersonville, NC, David and his family put down roots in Oklahoma. After graduating from U.S. Grant High School in 1972, David married the love of his life, Jo, in 1984, and together they raised three children, Ryan, Amber, and Cole.

David’s early work experiences began with such well-known places such as TG&Y and Halliburton, well-known for those in his generation, at least. He would regularly reminisce about how fortunate he was to be able to form the connections he had in these times, whether it be important business relationships or close personal friends with whom he could lean on for support and laugh about when remembering the times he shared with them.

In the early 1980’s David and his wife, Jo, established their own energy production company, Arrowhead Drilling Fluids, Inc. David gained many fortuitous experiences in the field of environmental engineering and consulting, which spring-boarded him into his next entrepreneurial venture in professional advisory under R.D. Schweikhart Consulting. His persistent efforts culminated into the establishment of Air & Earth, Inc. in 1993, which continues to provide environmental professional services throughout Oklahoma and in neighboring states to this day.

Although David’s career was especially important to him, his foundational strength and convictions were firmly rooted in his faith and love of the Church. He was a devoted parishioner of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Moore, OK, and a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. Through the Church, he made many wonderful friends with whom he shared so many irreplaceable memories.

David was a man with many guilty pleasures. Working on and rebuilding cars, car auctions, car shows… everything cars, really. His interest in cars was something his father introduced to him and happily shared with him throughout his youth and it clearly stuck with him to the end. There were many more guilty pleasures that occupied his limited time here, whether it be heated political and religious discussions, owning and caring for pets, vacationing, college football (OU/OSU), and the many house parties to celebrate all of the special occasions that came around.

David took great pride in having the opportunity to mentor many young men as a baseball coach, and it gave him so much joy, along with many challenges to overcome, where he and the boys learned to grow and gain with one another. Among those he was most especially proud of having coached were his children and grandchildren. He invested an incalculable amount of time, money, and effort into their growth and felt extremely fortunate to do so. He was particularly grateful about being able to have the chance to witness the youths he cared so much about grow and develop in their own unique ways. Outside of coaching baseball, he was in the crowd happily cheering for his grandchildren during their sports games, band concerts, dance recitals, bowling league, and all of the other activities in which they enjoyed.

Richard “David” Schweikhart was preceded in death by his parents Virginia and Richard, and his sister Jeanne Cassady (spouse Steve Cassady). He is survived by his wife Jo; his children Ryan (spouse Jamie), Amber (spouse Lee), and Cole (spouse Kristen); his grandchildren Terran, Syan, Shain, Pearce, Jaden, Marion, Ephraim, Catherine and with the expectant birth of Gemma Rose in March of 2021; as well as his brother Steve (spouse Lynn).  He leaves behind many loved ones, Aunts, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews and so many parish family and friends who were all so dear to him.

“Dave”, “Winky”, “Coach”, “PaPa”, “Dad”, “Brother”, “Son”, “Husband”… you will be sorely missed – you are well-loved.
