Raymond Haygood Obituary

Raymond “Ray” Henry Haygood, 81 of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, was born September 18, 1940, in Gray County, Texas. He passed away at his home on May 5, 2022. He was the youngest of seven children.

Ray joined the Navy in 1957, serving his country for eighteen years. He married Memory on February 1, 1962. They were together for 56 years. The couple lived coast to coast, but always called Oklahoma home. He enjoyed sharing Navy stories, and one of Ray’s favorites to tell was his tale about experiencing his first line-crossing ceremony, commemorating the first crossing of the equator as a sailor.

He was a true entrepreneur, and with the support and hard work from Memory and his boys, Ray owned a variety of business over the years, including a cabinet shop, a full-service gas station, a convenience store, real estate business, a local café in Chickasha, along with an auto sales and body shop. He liked to keep things exciting. He loved vegetable gardening with his son, Mike, and usually gave away all the vegetables they produced to family and friends. Ray’s kind, generous heart touched the lives of many during his lifetime, and he will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Memory Haygood; his parents, father Tom Haygood, and his mother, Sara Parks Haygood; three brothers, Clyde Haygood, Doc Haygood, and Bud Haygood, and three sisters, Edith White, Opal Lanning, and Pearl Sands.

Left behind to cherish his memory are three sons, Michael Haygood of Oklahoma City, Todd Haygood and wife Laura of Oklahoma City, and Kevin Haygood and wife Shari of Edmond, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Lindsay Harris and husband Kevin, Brandy Warehime and husband Jake, Kayleigh Haygood, and Kolby Haygood; four great-grandchildren, Daxton Harris, Olivia Harris, Lyla Kate Harris, and Dawsyn Ray Warehime; a brother-in-law, Warren Weideman; and a host of loving extended family and friends.
