Phillip John Obituary

Phillip Joe John’s sunrise was on December 9, 1949 in Gallup, New Mexico. His sunset was on September 8, 2021, at the age of 71 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma after a month-long battle with COVID-19. HE was preceded in death by his brother, Tom John. Phillip is survived by his mother Fannie Kee, his siblings Eddie John, Ernest John, Emerson John, Augustine John, and Mary Ann John; his daughter Philippa Mckaufman and her husband Rocky Mckaufman, and his grandchildren Sammika John-Myers, Syanne Mckaufman, Aiden Mckaufman, and Alexander Mckaufman, and many longtime friends.

Phillip graduated from Wingate High School in Ft. Wingate, New Mexico (Class of 1970). Soon after graduation, he moved to California with one of his siblings and attended Academy of Trades Los Angeles, learning many different trades like repairing cars, plumbing, and painting. After living in California for a significant amount of time, he decided to broaden his horizons and moved back to Gallup, New Mexico to work with the P&M coal mining. He also attended Dine College in Arizona.

After working with the mining company, Phillip decided to move to Oklahoma to help his daughter, Philippa, and his new grandbaby, Sammika – and never looked back. He decided to look for a job in the medical field, and after a brief search he landed jobs at Midwest Regional Medical Center, working there for a total of 22 years, and at Moore Medical Center for approximately 10 years. He retired and spent most of his time taking care of his 4 grandkids.

Phillip loved to be outside, play basketball, go fishing, and building things. Phillip looked forward to the holidays with his family, putting up decorations for each. Phillip enjoyed going out to eat with his family and friends, laughing and making many lasting memories. Phillip’s absolute favorite thing to do was color. He would spend days on end coloring in beautiful pictures of animals and landscapes. He had a remarkable talent, bringing these works of art to life.

Thank you to everyone for the many calls, prayers, and well wishes during this difficult time.
