Mary Elizabeth Carter, 77 of Oklahoma City, passed away on July 18, 2021. She was born in Carthage, North Carolina on November 27, 1943 to James Edward White and Edna Earl Becker (formerly Andrews). Mary grew up in Oklahoma and attended Enid High School. After graduation, she joined the medical field, becoming a Nurse’s Aide. Ms. Carter spent her career working for both St. Mary’s hospital in Enid and at Integris Baptist in Oklahoma City, and later working in private nursing.
Mary was a hard worker her entire life. When she decided to have a family, she provided a warm, loving home for her husband and children. Wherever she went, she made friends easily, and she liked pretty much everyone she ever met. As a songwriter, she had an ear for music, and loved to listen to all kinds. In addition to writing beautiful songs, she loved to paint, and she adored reading. She loved having the opportunity to spend time out on the water, and was so happy to have been able to boat on the Oakland Bay near the Golden Gate Bridge more than once. She had a kind, loving, charitable heart, and her sweet nature drew people to her. She was often a comforting presence for anyone who needed a shoulder to lean on. Mary’s greatest joy in life was raising and being with her family, and later, she found great happiness in spending as much time with her grandchildren as possible.
Mary touched the hearts of many with her caring and loving spirit, and she will be forever missed by all who knew her.
Mary is survived by her four children; one son, Bert Carter and wife Michelle of Oklahoma City, as well as three daughters, Judy Russell and husband Anthony of Norman, Cynthia Walorski and husband Fredrick of Shawnee, and Roberta Rogers and husband Dustin of Del City; she is also survived by one brother, Felix Becker of Southern Pines, North Carolina, as well as 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 20 at the John M. Ireland and Son Funeral Home and Chapel, located at 120 South Broadway Avenue in Moore, Oklahoma.
Services for Ms. Carter will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at the John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home & Chapel.
