Marlys Johnson Obituary

Marlys Johnson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away from this life peacefully and comfortably on February 2, 2024. Marlys was amazing - Beautiful, smart, funny, and so loving. She enjoyed having her coffee and pastries in the morning and adored watching the squirrels and birds outside her dining room window.

Mom never lost her love of watching old black and white movies, and she sure loved baking and cooking; one thing for sure is that nobody left mom’s house hungry. In fact, everyone always left stuffed full of her homemade goodies. She loved and cherished her family and adored all of her animals as well. She was devoted to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and had deep faith in our Lord – let’s just say Mom knew her Bible well and could recite just about any scripture by heart. A lifelong Elvis Presley fan, Marlys enjoyed singing and humming songs with her lovely voice. She was a very strong, independent woman and by all accounts, tough as nails.

She loved having a garden and enjoyed planting flowers, and she spent many a day watching classic movies and TV. Some of her favorite shows were the Carol Burnett Show, Laurel and Hardy, Alice, The Golden Girls, Three Stooges, The Red Skelton Show, and many more classics that she always said were the “real good TV shows now-a-days.”

Not long after her passing, one of the things we learned about our mom is she would regularly donate money to all kinds of charities; such a sweet and awesome thing to do, a series of selfless acts that say a lot about her character and just how big her heart was.

This beloved mother and grandmother will live forever in our hearts. Marlys will be missed dearly. Sing with the angels, Mom. We all love you.

Preceding her in death are her mother, Helen LeRoy, father Harry Ducharme, husband Thelbert Johnson, two sons, Danny Johnson, and Jimmy Johnson, and her granddaughter, Sarah Shanks.

Left to cherish her beautiful memory are five daughters and a son: Jeri Bruder, Laura Pruitt, Linda Calloway, Marla Johnson, Sheryl Waggoner, and Ben Johnson. Marlys is also survived by her sister, Mauna Sue, 16 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren (with one on the way), and several other loving family members and friends.
