Marjorie Lewis Obituary

Marjorie Lewis entered this life on January 1, 1948, in Philadelphia PA. Her parents were Dorothy and Harry Thompson. She was carried by angels into the arms of Jesus on December 11, 2021, just before her seventy fourth birthday.

Marge graduated from Murrell Dobbins Vo-tech high school and was employed by the City of Philadelphia in a clerical position. She attended the Philadelphia College of Bible and was awarded an Evangelical Teacher's certificate.

In 1975 she met a skinny (back in those days) guy in old worn navy dungarees. In 1976 Marge married David Lewis and Marge and Dave set out on a 46-year journey of service to God and their community. Marge described herself as “directionally challenged” so the particulars of that journey were sometimes in question, but she always loved the trip.

Marge and Dave moved to Norman in 1980 when Dave took an instructor position at the Postal Training Center. They adopted a son, G. John, in the mid-1980s and helped him to exceed the limits that life placed on him.

“Miss Margie” worked in volunteer and paid childcare positions for most of her life. She served as a lead preschool teacher in the Parents Day Out programs at Crosspointe Church and First Baptist of Norman. She also assisted Friendship International and the Mothers of Preschoolers with child care.

Marge taught preschool and children's Sunday School classes for many years and blessed the lives of hundreds of children through her love and kindness. She was especially patient with children that others might describe as “difficult”. When people asked why, she always replied that “They're the ones who need love the most.”

Marge served as a volunteer disability advocate for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. She was active as a volunteer for the Special Olympics at the local and state level. Marge also assisted with the nutrition program conducted by the Aging Services of Cleveland County.
