Louie D. Bishop of Blanchard, Oklahoma, was called Home to Heaven on January 23, 2023, at the age of 84. Louie was born in South New Hope, Arkansas on the 9th day of December, 1938, one of the eighteen children born to Charles Isaac Bishop and Stella Mae (Harris) Bishop.
As a very young man growing up in Dover, Arkansas, Louie began his career in farming working the fruit orchards and harvesting cotton. He went on to work for a chicken farm for many years, and briefly had a stint in construction where he specialized in brick masonry. Louie was highly respected by his friends and supervisors and was known as a reliable, hard worker who was always there to help. On August 25, 1977, Louie married the love of his life, Dorthy, and the couple enjoyed their life together for 19 years until her death in 1996.
Louie was a sweet, wise, and gentle man with a big heart, and a pure spirit. His faith was an integral part of who he was, and Louie loved the Lord, and was a man of prayer. He lived his life with grace and was kind to his very core, showing his loved ones how to treat others with kindness and respect. He had a zest for life and made sure to live his to the fullest. He became an adventurous eater later in life, and his son-in-law loved taking him out and introducing him to new cuisine. Louie discovered a great love for gyros, sushi, and most recently, kimchi. He also developed a talent for making jewelry in his later years. Over the last decade, Louie became quite skilled at his craft, handmaking many beautiful necklaces, bracelets, and other jewelry that he enjoyed giving away as gifts.
Most of all, Louie loved his family and treasured any time spent with those he loved. You could often spot him out and about with his son-in-law and errand buddy, Marc, or find him spoiling his cherished dog, Tracy, who was his constant companion during the last three years of his life. Louie was a caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and a loyal friend to so many. He will be very deeply missed.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorthy Bishop, and his second wife, Eunice; his parents, Charles and Stella Bishop; as well as three sisters, and twelve brothers, including his identical twin brother.
Left to honor his memory are his daughters, Tammy Hendricks and her husband, Marc, Rita Khouri and her husband, John, and Sheila Money, along with his stepdaughters, E. Veronica, Donna Elam, and Wonna Elam Cornelson and her husband, Gary; seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; as well as two sisters, Loreda Bishop Stice, and Nina Joyce Bishop, and many more loving family members and friends.
