Lorine Powell Obituary

Lorine Powell of Oklahoma City, age 72, passed away from this life on July 28, 2021. She was born to Jasper and Hattie Nunley on April 12, 1949. Ms. Powell was a Homemaker, and she and her husband Robert raised their family together in Oklahoma City. After their children had grown up, Lorine and Robert moved to Ravia, Oklahoma in the late 1990s.

Lorine Powell was a woman of very few words. Despite having a quiet disposition, Lorine was straightforward when the situation called for it. Always one to bluntly state what was on her mind, if she liked you, you knew it, and if she didn’t like you, you absolutely knew it. Lorine’s matter-of-fact personality and quiet humor endeared her to her family and friends, and the way she expressed herself so honestly often made people laugh. She loved going to the casino, and she was a pretty lucky lady, usually going in with a budget of about $40 and walking out at the end of the night with over $500. More than anything in life, Lorine loved being with her family. She liked to travel to see her daughter, Connie, often using these road trips as an excuse to stop along the way and treat herself to her favorite indulgence, a big bucket of chicken from either KFC or Grandy’s. Lorine would have eaten fried chicken for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every single day if she could have - she even liked to eat it cold directly out of the fridge. Lorine will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her, and as she often used to say, “It’s not goodbye, it’s see ya’ later.”

Ms. Powell was preceded in death by her mom and dad, her husband, Robert, a brother, Harold Nunley, a sister, Barbara Nunley, her granddaughter, Hannah Danielle Nunley, and a niece, Dolores Brawdy.

She is survived by three children; a daughter, Connie Loper of Oklahoma City, two sons, Jasper Nunley of Oklahoma City, and Billy Jenkins of Ravia, Oklahoma; two sisters, her twin, Corine Rooffener of Choctaw, Oklahoma and Lorita Fleming of Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren, Tommy Merritt, Bobby Merritt, Breanna Nunley, Jasper Nunley, Justin Jenkins, Dylan Loper, Brittany Jenkins, and Billy Jenkins; as well as two great-grandchildren.
