Linda Slater Obituary

Linda Gail Slater, of Oklahoma City passed away on February 17, 2021 at the age of 76. She was born April 1, 1944 in Oklahoma City to Jack Henley, Jr. and Effie Ladean (Gilchrist) Henley.

Linda loved the lord and was very strong in her faith. She was married to Harry Slater, Sr. for 52 years until his passing in 2013. Linda was a homemaker for many years. She loved cooking, family gatherings and could cook anything fried with gravy you could ever want. She was proud of working for American Airlines (Sky Chef) in the 70's and 80's and enjoyed traveling with the family during that time. Linda was also a beautician by trade. It was nothing to see her family and friends gathered around the kitchen table doing hair and make-up. She was very proud of her big beehives, updos, pin curls and perms that she did very well. Linda was a kind and soft hearted person that never met a stranger. Everyone was her friend and her home was always open to anyone in need or just to hang out. Linda loved music, dancing, shopping, make-up, dressing up in bright colors and always having her hair done up, sometimes even with a little spike on the side. Most of all Linda loved her family. In her eyes her children and grandchildren never did any wrong and nobody could tell her otherwise. She spent many weekends at the ballpark, wrestling tournaments, the lake and traveling with the family for sporting events and vacations.  Linda loved her grandkids and just hanging out with them looking at pictures and videos. She dearly missed her grandson Jake (Jacob) her sidekick, and running buddy. She often said, "I sure do miss him". His passing definitely left a big hole in her heart. Linda also had a special place in her heart for her little Schnauzers Bubba and Sissy that she had for many years. Her children often told her she treated her dogs better than she treated them. She always got a good laugh out of that.

Linda leaves behind many who are already missing her greatly. She is survived by her son Harry and wife Christine, daughter Shelly Waddle and husband James, son Vince Slater and wife Lisa, and stepson Bill Ross Slater-Essman. Grandchildren Briyan Slater, Auston Slater, Weston Slater and wife Kelsey, Tyler Waddle and fiancé Haley Turner, Matthew Waddle and wife Brittany, Shanley Jackson and husband Chris, Amber Terrel and husband Shane, Huntter Slater, Madison Essman, Mason Essman, and Samantha Conley. Great grandchildren Parker and Cohen Jackson, Owen Waddle, Jake Terrel and Ainsley Conley. Lifelong friends Wanda Barringer, Suzanne Moore, Margaret Curtis, and Rita Melendez along with so many more family and friends to list.

A special thank you to her niece Robin Gamble who always stopped by to visit and help out around the house and she would bring her granddaughters Cora Joe, and Keira who Linda adored. The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Maria Kane for always being so kind, caring and helpful and who Linda considered a good friends.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents,  Jack Jr. and Ladean Henley, husband Harry Slater, Sr., sister Sharen Gamble, grandson Jacob (Jake) Waddle, nephew Guy Gamble and long time friend Sara Brown.
