Lenda Murphy Obituary

Lenda Kay Murphy, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother of Moore, Oklahoma, passed away from this life on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at the age of 74. Lenda was born in Wilhelmina, Missouri, on December 1, 1948, to Ann Mercina (Gurk) Smith and Enis Jewell Smith and grew up in a farming family.

In 1968, Lenda married the love of her life, Dennis. Dennis fondly remembers his young bride dancing to the new age rock of the ‘60s. Lenda’s love of the classics remained with her throughout her life, and she loved cleaning the house to her favorite Elvis, Prince, and Johnny Cash songs.

Lenda had a lifelong fondness for unicorns and enjoyed collecting anything and everything unicorn. She also loved collecting Tupperware, bowls, and mason jars that she liked to use for canning, a skill she learned as a little girl on the family farm. She also enjoyed watching classic black and white movies, doing her crossword puzzles, and watching her favorite show, Law and Order.

Above all, family was what meant the most to Lenda. She was a supportive wife and a wonderful homemaker, doing everything she could to make a better life for her and her family, including helping her husband with his schoolwork throughout his college years. Because they were a military family, Lenda and Dennis moved around quite a bit over the years. They lived in Germany snd Italy for a time, as well as Shawnee, Oklahoma, and on base at Tinker AFB.

Lenda was also a sweet, loving mother, and later, an adoring grandmother who loved to dote on and play with her grandchildren. She enjoyed coloring and doing puzzles with them, cherishing all of the special moments they shared together. The love Lenda had for her family, along with her fun-loving nature and zest for life touched the hearts of many. She will be dearly missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ann and Enis Smith, her daughter, Shelley Murphy, her son, Dennis Murphy Jr., and two brothers, Ernie Smith, and James Smith.

Left to treasure her memory are her husband of 55 years, Dennis Murphy, sons Sean Murphy, and Richard Murphy and his wife Christina, and six grandchildren: Shelly Murphy, Carolyn Murphy, Abigail Murphy, Dominique Murphy, Rebecca Murphy, and Jayden Murphy. Lenda is also survived by her brother, Lawson Smith, and many more loving family members and dear friends.
