LeRoy Dale Craig

LeRoy Dale Craig of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away from this life on June 27, 2022, at the age of 72. LeRoy was born in Oklahoma City on January 28, 1950, the son of Harold Craig and Bessie Hughes. As a young man, he heard his country’s call and on his 18th birthday, enlisted in the United States Army, just as his father had before him. LeRoy proudly served during the Vietnam War, earning several medals, badges, and awards including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Army Commendation Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters and “V” DVC, and two overseas service bars.  

After an honorable discharge from the Army, he began a rewarding career as an Aircraft Mechanic at Tinker Air Force Base, retiring in 1982. Never one to sit still for very long, LeRoy re-joined the workforce after his retirement and worked in the Produce industry, was a manager at his local Pizza Hut for a time, and co-owned a successful landscaping company with his brother.

LeRoy was a charming, warm-hearted family man who loved laughing and making others laugh. He was dependable, loving, stubborn, silly, brave, generous, and humble. He taught his daughter, Angela, and later his granddaughter, Sophie, that nobody needs material things to live a happy life. His daughter and granddaughter brought him great joy. Any time he talked about Angela or Sophie, his entire face lit up, full of love. He was incredibly proud of his granddaughter, and LeRoy loved watching Sophie’s softball games and volleyball matches on Facetime.

He enjoyed many fulfilling hobbies like fishing, gardening – most people had no idea just how much he loved roses – and of course, making sure he had the best-looking yard in his neighborhood. He enjoyed listening to his favorite music - usually Journey, Chicago, or AC/DC - going for drives (especially when he had his Mustang), and he loved playing poker and pool, especially with his brothers, Floyd, and Dennis. LeRoy was very close to his brothers, and the trio loved to go fishing, shoot pool, and play cards together any time they had a chance. He also loved watching Thunder basketball, OU football and baseball, watching the ION channel or the news on CNN, and he often left Animal Planet programs on during the day for his cat. LeRoy was a wonderful man, always full of life and love. He will be dearly missed.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Bessie Hughes, and Harold Craig, and his two brothers, Dennis and Floyd Craig.

Left to treasure his memory are his daughter, Angela Driskill and her husband, Jeff; two brothers, Jerry Craig of Moore, Oklahoma, and Harold Craig of Norman, Oklahoma, and three sisters, Joyce Passmore of the Mid-Del area, Jean Jacobs, and Glenda Buchanan, both of Oklahoma City; his beloved granddaughter, Sophie Driskill of Chicago, Illinois; along with a host of loving extended family and dear friends.
