Lance Rumsey Obituary

Daniel Lance Rumsey of Moore, Oklahoma, passed away from this life on May 19, 2022, at the age of 53. Lance was born in Denison, Texas, to Delmon and Patsy Rumsey on June 11, 1968. He was a member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and was a direct descendant of Chief William McIntosh Jr. Lance earned his Bachelor’s degree at Southwestern University, where he and his younger brother, Monty, played football together. Lance earned many accomplishments during his high school, college, and Professional football career. He was a 2018 College Football Hall of Fame inductee and was a Norseman Nose Tackle on the 1986 National Championship Team at Northeastern State University in Miami, Oklahoma.

Lance traveled the world and proudly served and protected his country.  He was employed by the Department of Defense and was stationed at Tinker Air Force Base. In April of 2008, Lance received the Air Force Productivity Excellence Award in a ceremony at the Pentagon.

Lance was a lively, active person who lived his life to the fullest and had a variety of hobbies. He enjoyed shooting and collecting guns, visiting amusement parks, listening to 80s rock music, and being outdoors, taking frequent fishing trips. He was also a hands-on dad who loved being involved with his kids’ sports and activities. Over the years, Lance has coached football, baseball, basketball, wrestling, and soccer. More than anything in life, he simply adored his family and enjoyed spending time with those he loved. Lance was a dedicated, supportive father to his children and would do anything for his family. His fun-loving, caring heart touched the lives of many. Lance will be dearly missed.

He is preceded in death by his father, Delmon Ray Rumsey Sr., and two brothers, Michael Rumsey, and Monty Rumsey.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Caryn Record Rumsey; his three children, daughter Ryann Rumsey, and sons Jet and Jax Rumsey; a sister, Jeanne Graves and husband Melvin, and a brother, Delmon Rumsey Jr. and his wife, Susan; his mother, Patsy C. Rumsey; along with a host of loving extended family, colleagues, and friends.
