Kelley Walden Monroe was born to Jack and Cherilyn Walden November 4, 1963. She began her life in Ulysses, KS. Kelley died January 13, 2022, at the age of 58.
The family moved to Moore in 1971. From that time, Kelley attended Moore schools and graduated in 1982. She then attended Southeastern State College before joining the Air Force in 1984. While stationed in Okinawa, Japan, Kelley met Harland Monroe and they were married there in 1986. She was honorably discharged that year. While he was still in the Air Force in 1989 and they were living in Las Vegas their son, Stephen, was born. They moved to Moore in 1994 and 2 years later Kelley began working at Tinker Air Force Base as a jet engine mechanic. While employed at Tinker, she also attended Rose State College and obtained a degree as a paralegal. She was medically retired from Tinker in 2004.
Kelley was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. Her first love was Harland, and they spent 36 years together. She also loved spending time with their son, Stephen, and playing video games.
Kelley had a great variety of interests. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her desserts. Kelley and Harland loved fishing at Lake Texoma, and they have fished from the seas of Japan to the rivers of Colorado. She was an avid Oklahoma Sooners football fan and loved watching the Sooners with her family at her parents’ house. She recently mused about whether there would be football in Heaven. Kelley also found joy in watching the Hallmark Channel and “Hell’s Kitchen” with Gordon Ramsey. She loved crafts and Christmas time.
Kelley was stubborn. As she fought metastatic breast cancer for 5 years, her strong will and spirit of perseverance was very evident. She never gave up. Kelley was ready and eager to try any treatment her doctor recommended.
Kelley had a kind and loving heart. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
She had a great love for animals, especially her dogs, Calamity Jane, Wild Bill Hickok, and Kara. Harland and Kelley enjoyed life together. Their trips included attending a Sturgis motorcycle rally. They enjoyed going out to dinner and just being homebodies.
Kelley Monroe is survived by her husband, Harland, and their son, Stephen. She is also survived by her parents, Jack and Cherilyn Walden, her brother, Shayne and his wife, Marsha, and her sister, Jacqueline Sivard and her husband, Rod. She is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
