Karen Schemmel Obituary

Karen L. Schemmel of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma passed away from this life on October 5, 2021, at the age of 78. Karen was born in Sidney, Ohio to Charles W. Motsinger and Heloise L. Motsinger (formerly Nolan) on September 24, 1943. Karen was a graduate of Holy Angels High School in Sidney, Ohio, Class of ’61. Karen was in retail most of her working career, retiring from Wal-Mart as a Cashier in 1998.

Karen was feisty. She was a very honest and straightforward person, and you always knew where she stood on the issues. Karen had a loving, giving heart and would always stop whatever she was doing to help anyone in need. Karen loved her lord and savior, and her faith was very important to her throughout her life. When she lived in Ohio, she was an active member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church. Karen loved to do crafts, especially crocheting. Over the years, she made nine blankets which have become cherished family heirlooms. She also enjoyed gardening and mowing on her riding lawnmower. Karen loved animals, and she was most fond of horses and cats. She loved to watch horse racing on TV, and she enjoyed the show Blue Bloods.

Karen loved to spend time with her husband Gene, the love of her life for the past 60 years. They liked to go out to dinner together, and they loved taking any opportunity to travel to go see family. Family was very important to Karen. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved buying clothes for her children, and they were always the best dressed kids in the whole neighborhood. Karen looked forward to morning visits from her son-in-law, Randy. He would bring her raspberry donuts and they would sit and drink coffee, eat, and just visit. She absolutely loved to dance, and before she passed, Karen said she looked forward to dancing with her grandson Matt in Heaven.

She was an incredibly loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, and friend.  Karen touched the lives of many with her kind and loving personality, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Heloise Motsinger, one son, Samuel, a brother, Thomas, and her grandson, Matthew.

Karen is survived by her beloved husband, Gene Schemmel; two children, daughter Julia Ann Jones and husband Randall, and son Michael Schemmel of Delaware, Ohio; eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Patricia Kinninger and husband Thomas of Sidney, Ohio.
