John Jarrett Obituary

It is with profound grief and a lifetime of wonderful memories that we announce the death of John Edward Jarrett, who passed away on April 17, 2024, at the age of 71. Ed was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on April 9, 1953. He was the son of John D. Jarrett and Mabel F. Jarrett, both of whom have preceded him in death. He is also preceded by his brother, Bryan Jarrett, and his granddaughter, Natalie.

Eddie leaves behind a legacy of love. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sue Jarrett, of the home; his children, Christopher Jarrett and his wife Laura of Franklin, Tennessee, Kendall Jarrett of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kay Nichols of Noble, Oklahoma, Ernie Stas, also of Noble, and DJ Stas of Neosho, Missouri; his siblings, Jeanette Bybee, Curtis Jarrett, Susan Jarrett-Kabrich, and Trish Jarrett-Winn; and his grandchildren, Paul, Draven, Kaylee, Jacob, Skyla, Randell, Samantha, and William Anthony.

Ed worked for General Motors, dedicating 31.1 years to his career as a Forklift Driver and retiring in 2008. He became a full-time homebody after his retirement, shifting his focus to exploring his interests and hobbies, and of course, being with his beloved family.

Eddie was imaginative, a deep thinker who mostly kept to himself. Ornery, playful, and laid-back, his steady temperament was comforting to those around him. With an adventurous streak and a love for the outdoors, Ed enjoyed rock climbing, repelling, hiking, and most of all, camping. He spent much of his free time taking care of his property and especially loved to garden. He grew everything from vegetables, plants, and flowers. He also enjoyed traveling here and there and loved challenging his loved ones to chess matches at any opportunity.

He was also an amateur Astronomer and space enthusiast. Fascinated by the universe, he liked to stargaze with his telescope at night alongside Sue. As night owls, Eddie and Sue liked staying up late into the night, and even more, enjoyed sleeping in. He loved anything and everything sci-fi. He was a Trekkie, and he took his shows very seriously. He was the type of person who liked to pay close attention to what was going on and analyze each episode’s deeper meaning. If you happened to be brave enough to interrupt him during one of his shows, he would most certainly let you hear it. He also loved watching movies. His favorite was the classic futuristic thriller The Fifth Element, a film he watched and shared with others countless times over the years.

A lifelong animal lover who was especially partial to anything canine, Eddie always had a dog or two around to spoil. Most recently, it wasn’t a dog who captured his heart, but the family cat, lovingly named Barf. He also enjoyed feeding suet to the many birds who liked to visit his yard.

Yet, it was Ed’s family that remained his greatest source of pride and joy. He was devoted to his wife and was an ardent supporter of his children and grandchildren, prioritizing their happiness and well-being above all else. As we reflect on the life of John Edward “Eddie” Jarrett, let us remember him for his warm, passionate nature, his dedication to his family, and for all the good things he accomplished during his 71 years on this earth.
