James "Phil" Corbett

James Phillip “Phil” Corbett of Oklahoma City, age 68, passed away from this life to spend his eternal life in Heaven on July 27, 2021. Phil was born in Oklahoma City on February 23, 1943 to William and Corine Corbett. Phil attended Kemper Military School, and later attended and graduated from Norman High School. After high school, Phil heard his nation’s call and proudly joined the United States Air Force. After the military, Mr. Corbett went to work for the United States Postal Service, where he met the love of his life. Later, he went to work for the 7-11 corporation, where he worked for over 30 years.

Phil was an active member of the First Southern Baptist Church, and was very involved with the youth group there. He had an incredibly deep influence on the children at church, and most of them looked up to Phil like a big brother. He was a part of the bus ministry for many years, and later, he became a greeter at the church, always relishing the opportunity to welcome people to church. Mr. Corbett loved Little League baseball, and one of his most cherished memories was having the opportunity to travel to Waco, Texas to watch the finals in person. He also loved OU wrestling, and rooted for the Sooners each season. Phil was a leader and influencer to many, and he and his famous Hawaiian shirts will be remembered and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

A graveside service for Phil will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at the I.O.O.F Cemetery, located at 1913 North Porter Avenue in Norman, Oklahoma.
