Herbert Neal, “Herb”, Cargill passed peacefully from this life at his home surrounded by family on Thursday January 13, 2022. He was 91 years of age. Herb was born February 18, 1930, to Guy and Susan Cargill.
Growing up Herb was able to live out the fantasy of every little boy at that time – he was a cowboy. He grew up on the family farm, Cargill Hill, where he learned to rodeo, raise pigs, beef and dairy cattle and breaking horses. His love of horses continued throughout his life, and he passed this legacy on to his children. Growing up there was always horses and dogs to occupy their time. In the 1980’s he found a new passion - quarter horse racing. He took this passion and began training and racing quarter horses with his family.
For more than sixty years Herb successfully operated Cargill Construction Company, constructing luxury homes throughout the Oklahoma City metro. As his sons matured, they joined him in the family business. He had a reputation for building quality homes and was honored to be named Builder of the Year by the Oklahoma City Home Builders Association in the 1970’s.
In August of 1949 Herb married Laura Eagan. From this marriage six children were born. After the passing of Laura, Herb was blessed to marry and happily live out the remainder of his days with Marie Curry. Herb and Marie were married for thirty-eight years.
