Hazel Johannes Obituary

Hazel Mae Johannes, 94, passed away April 2, 2021 in Bethany, OK after battling a long illness.
She was born May 24, 1926 in Stillwater, OK, and lived most of her life in central Oklahoma, including 20 years spent living on the family farm near Mulhall, OK. She married Arnold Roy Johannes in 1945, and at that she time joined the Lutheran Church. For a time she worked for Putnam City Schools in the kitchen, where she was known as “the cinnamon roll lady.” Later she worked at Western Electric (later AT&T, then Lucent Technologies) in Oklahoma City until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Don, Jr. (known as Bud), and twins Lee and Dee, two sisters Lucille and Allie, two sons Terry Dean Johannes in 1993 and Gary Dell Johannes in 2019, her husband Arnold Roy Johannes in 1996, and a granddaughter Sarah Michelle Ramage in 2005.
She is survived by a son Larry Frank Johannes of Oklahoma City, a daughter and son-in-law Carol Ann and Steven Jess Reynolds of Oklahoma City, and a daughter-in-law Cindra Johannes of Yukon. She is also survived by grandchildren Travis Reynolds, Amanda Reynolds, Corie Biehler, and Preston Johannes, numerous great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson Aron.
Hazel enjoyed her family, taking care of her home, and working on the family farm near Mulhall, Oklahoma. She liked gardening in her vegetable garden and took care of many varieties of flowers that helped to attract hummingbirds and purple martins to her yard every year. Along with her husband “Joe” she took care of several head of cattle and was always thrilled at the birth of a new baby calf. She enjoyed cooking for her family, all of whom especially looked forward to her Easter ham and ham gravy every year.
Over the years she was an active member at Zion Lutheran and Messiah Lutheran Churches in Oklahoma City, Christ Lutheran Church in Perry, and St John Lutheran Church in Moore, Oklahoma.
A service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church in Moore on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 10 a.m. with a reception to follow. Interment will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery in Perry, Oklahoma.
