Harlon Edward McConnell, 85, of Alex, Oklahoma passed away peacefully at home on September 6, 2020 surrounded by his family.
Harlon was born in Okemah, Oklahoma on November 28, 1934, the son of James Robert McConnell and Elsie Christine Capps. He married Sylvania Webb of Minco, Oklahoma on November 28, 1952 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Harlon worked as a dairy hand on several dairy farms before starting his own north of Alex in 1966. He retired from the dairy in 1980 and later went to work for Middleberg and Alex Public Schools as a maintenance man and bus driver until 2000. After retiring as a bus driver, Harlon spent his time being a horse trader and he enjoyed going to flea markets. He loved spending time with his family telling stories and watching his grandchildren roam his land. Harlon never met a stranger and would give a man the shirt off of his back and the last penny out of his pocket.
Harlon was preceded in death by both parents; his wife of 50 years, Sylvania Webb; two sons Steve Edward and Bruce Harley McConnell; three brothers Harold, Willard, and Wade; and two sisters Louise and Bertha.
Survivors include son George Robert, son Jimmy Dwayne, son Paul Davie, and son and daughter-in-law Malcolm Dean and Felicia all of Alex, Oklahoma. Granddaughter Fauna and husband Rik Hankins of Omega, Oklahoma, grandson Casey and wife Patrisha of Alex, Oklahoma, grandson Justin and wife Amanda of Wichita Falls, Texas, granddaughter Rebecca and husband Marcus Nieto of Alex, Oklahoma. Great-grandchildren include Gunner Hankins, Kayelynn McConnell, Blake and Jaycee Dominguez, Kaden Thompson, Cameron and Ryne Nieto, and Ryker McConnell.
Funeral services will be at Harlon’s home in Alex on Friday, September 11, 2020 at 1:00 PM. Interment to follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Chickasha, OK. Funeral Services are under the direction of John M. Ireland Funeral Home.
