Gay Don Gibson, born on August 23, 1936, in Duncan, Oklahoma peacefully passed away on August 20, 2023, in Norman, Oklahoma.
Gay earned her teaching degree from Oklahoma Baptist University, which laid the foundation for her successful career as an educator. She was a beloved Kindergarten teacher at Williams Elementary School in Bakersfield, California, where she dedicated many years to teaching her students the joy of reading.
Her hobbies included reading a good book and yelling at the TV, especially during OU games. She always made her family feel loved and taken care of.
She was incredibly civic-minded. She often volunteered at her local polling booth and made sure you knew when an election was happening. Gay was also a talented craftswoman who took pleasure in creating and selling her beautiful crafts.
She is survived by her four children, Paula Williams, Brian Gibson, Barbara Galbraith, and John Gibson, and their spouses. She was a loving grandmother to eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Gay will be greeted in Heaven by her parents, Paul and Lura Hill, and her brother, Paul David Hill.
Gay was a strong Christian who found solace and strength in her faith. She served as a pastor’s wife at several Baptist churches in the Bakersfield, California, area and was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Norman, Oklahoma. Gay’s belief in Jesus Christ shaped her whole life, and she instilled the values of faith and love in her children, which she considered her most important legacy.
A private family memorial service will be held to honor and celebrate the life of Gay Don Gibson. May her memory be cherished by all those whose lives she touched.
