Gary Dean Fowler, born on June 18, 1959, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, was called home to be with the Lord on September 6, 2023, after a valiant battle with cancer. Gary was a man of strong convictions, profound faith, and deep love for his family.
Gary held a profound love for music. Having taken piano lessons for many years, he emerged as a highly proficient pianist. His remarkable ear for music not only allowed him to play almost any piece by listening but also propelled him into his esteemed career as a piano tuner. Gary had a special fondness for country music, often referring to one of his favorite groups, Rascal Flatts, as "flascal rats," a playful twist that became a cherished family joke.
He was a highly respected piano technician, dedicating 45 years to mastering his craft and building a successful business. Gary was also an avid OU Sooners fan and loved watching professional golf, always cheering on his favorite, Ricky Fowler. He fondly referred to Ricky as "cousin Ricky," adding a touch of humor to his fervent support, despite no blood relation.
A believer in Jesus Christ from childhood, Gary was sincere in his faith journey. While he faced his share of ups and downs, the last year of his life saw him reaffirming his faith in Christ. He was a man of few words, yet when he spoke, his words carried weight and meaning.
Gary's most defining trait was his unwavering dedication to his family. His children and grandchildren were the center of his world. He leaves behind his children Jonah Greer of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Justin Evans and wife Stevie of Wilmington, Delaware and their daughter Keelen; Lara Murphy and husband Jon of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and their children Aiden and Colton; Krista Fowler of Wilmington, Delaware and her son Cael; Alexis Fowler of Apex, North Carolina; and Kyle Fowler and Alyssa of Delaware City, Delaware and their son Noah.
Gary was preceded in death by his grandparents, father Frank Fowler of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, sister-in-law Raye Fowler of Midwest City, Oklahoma, nephew Joey Fowler Jr. of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and brother Frank Fowler, Jr. of Midwest City, Oklahoma. He is survived by his mother, Lula Fowler-Westmoreland of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, brother Dr. Joey Fowler and his wife Connie, of Edmond, Oklahoma, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Beyond his human family, Gary had a special place in his heart for cats, showcasing his softer side with these feline companions.
A visitation in Gary's honor will be held at John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home and Chapel, 120 S. Broadway Ave., Moore, Oklahoma on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.
