Elizabeth Ann Johnson

Elizabeth Ann Johnson of Norman, Oklahoma, was called Home to Heaven on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at the age of 81. Elizabeth was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on June 30, 1942, the daughter of Cecil Gunter and Anna (Garside) Gunter.

Elizabeth was a sweet, loving woman with a zest for life and, from the time she was a young woman, a wonderful sense of adventure. She loved traveling, particularly spur-of-the-moment travel. She loved to simply get in the car and go wherever the road happened to lead her. Over the years, Elizabeth took many memorable trips to Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, and to California to visit family.

She was a Godly woman who was a faithful member of the Next Level Worship Center in Oklahoma City. She was a big part of the family’s Sunday dinners, which always featured one of Elizabeth most sought-after specialties – her sweet pistachio salad, which everyone in the family lovingly refers to as “the green stuff”. Next to her faith, Elizabeth’s family were her guiding light in life. She was a wonderful wife and mother, and a sweet, doting grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She especially loved attending all the kids’ baseball events. You could often find her watching one of her favorite game shows or putting together a new puzzle, or more than likely, spending quality time with the people she loved. Elizabeth will be dearly missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Cecil Gunter, her first husband, Bobby LaShum, three brothers, Bobby, Charles, and Ernie Gunter, as well as a grandson, Stephen LaShum.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 13 years, Benny Johnson; two children, Ed LaShum and daughter-in-law Kim, and Edra Davis; three sisters, Sarah Self, Pat Daniels and brother-in-law Louis, and Donna Roberts and brother-in-law Carl. Elizabeth is also survived by her grandchildren, Elysia Roberson, Erica Hingston, Jesse Tillman, Kayla Woody, and Brett LaShum, and great-grandchildren Natallie Roberson, Gabbie Roberson, Maccie Roberson, Laylen Woody, Owen Woody, Sidney Hingston, Dayton Hingston, and Paizley Howard.
