Dr. Frederick Alma Robley, III, who died at 75 years of age on November 18th, led an extraordinary life filled with a love of his Heavenly Father, a passion for family and a dedication to service.
Dr. Fred is preceded in death by his mother, Muriel Vaughn (née) Robley, his father Frederick Alma Robley, JR., and his brother Stephen A. Robley, all from Rhode Island. He is survived by his wife Margaret Louise Thomas (née) Robley, his daughters Sarah, Jennifer, her husband Gerrard McGill, and Allyson, his son John, his wife Jennifer Hester, and eight grandchildren, Eoin, George, Ivory, Greyson, Oliver, Isabella, Gabriella, and Emmy; his sister Dale Lewis of Massachusetts; sister-in-law, Joan Robley of Rhode Island; his nephews Peter Lewis of St. Louis, MO., Stephen Lewis of Massachusetts, Christopher Robley of Maine; and niece Christine Lewis of Florida; along with many nieces, nephew & cousins.
Born and raised in Warwick, RI to Muriel Vaughn and Frederick Robley, JR., Fred took permanent residence in Oklahoma City, OK after medical school.
Fred joined the Coast Guard in 1966 and honorably served in Vietnam after attending North Yarmouth Prep. Following service to his country, Fred returned to the US where he would complete his undergraduate degree, in Math at the University of Vermont and Medical School at the University of Oklahoma.
Fred was an avid learner. He very much enjoyed learning about almost everything and everyone. Fred was a bit of a modern Renaissance man. He was gifted in so many ways. He loved people and talking on topics from string theory, gardening or soccer and OU football. He loved windsurfing, sailing, and being on the water, as well as skiing and being in the mountains. You could take the boy out of Rhode Island, but you couldn't take the love of sailing out of the man. He loved gardening and he could paint and draw with exceptional precision and beauty. He could play many musical instruments and loved picking a good acoustic guitar and an impromptu jam session. He could fix just about anything from your car to your heart. He spent decades saving lives across OK and serving others. He worked on major holidays just to make sure people in rural OK and TX would have access to care. Fred always found a way to help anyone or anything and he loved his Heavenly Father. He was always learning and growing in his Faith.
It was his passion for the Lord Jesus Christ that really shined. Fred loved his church and serving others. Fred was always taking on projects that would help keep others afloat. He was always helping stray animals and people. He would not only give you the shirt off his back, his food, and a place to sleep, he would even loan you his car or truck. He was always helping others. Fred was a true servant leader.
Fred was dedicated to his family. There was nothing he would not do to support the passions and goals of those he loved. He wanted to share his passions and pass on his knowledge. He wanted to assure that his family had the tools and opportunities to be successful but also the heart to serve others.
Fred exuded Faith, positivity and love that lit the way around him. He leaves a legacy of profound accomplishments. He did not tie at anchor or drift on calm seas, he was always setting sail and always looking for adventure. He has now thrown off the bowlines and has set sail from this harbor. He is on to his next adventure, and I bet his brother Stephen is there with him.
There will be no viewing per his request. Memorial services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 12915 N. Santa Fe Ave., Moore, OK, 73170, on December 2 at 10:00 am.
