Donald McCoy Obituary

Donald Ray McCoy of Moore, Oklahoma, passed away from this life on May 14, 2023, at the age of 72. Don was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, on March 12, 1951, the son of John D. McCoy and Dorthy Lee (Baker) Wellchel. On June 4, 1972, Don married Cathy, the love of his life. Their union produced three wonderful children, Donald Jr., Chris, and Kristi. For most of his working career, he was a commercial contractor who specialized in painting homes and businesses.

Don, or “Old Man” as he was sometimes affectionately called, was the type of guy who appreciated the simpler things in life. He loved working on cars, hanging out with his family, and enjoying a cold Dr. Pepper out on his porch. Known as a jokester, he enjoyed giving people a good scare with his monster masks, and he loved giving his friends and family a hard time. Don was always quick to make the whole room break into laughter — he was also known to be a bit of a flirt. Above all, Don was a devoted husband and a dedicated family man who enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family, his friends, and his pets. In his younger years, Don loved building model semi-trucks with his boys and continued being actively involved in his children’s lives into their adulthood. He was a wonderful grandfather who adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, treasuring all the moments they spent together over the years. Don touched the hearts of many during his lifetime, and he will be very deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Dorthy Wellchel, and father, John McCoy. Also preceding Don in death are three brothers, Melvin McCoy, Eugene McCoy, and Jackie McCoy, and four sisters, Joann Tipton, Bernice Bernard, Carolyn Hall, and his twin sister, Ladonna Givens.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Cathy McCoy; three children, Donald McCoy Jr. and his wife Jennifer, Chris McCoy and his wife Kim, and Kristi Easter and husband Jeff; seven grandchildren, Cody, Britney, Caylin, Cory, Michael, Kadyn, and Cheyenne; five great-grandchildren, Aspen, Athena, Freyja, Joseph James, and Avery, and one more on the way, Stella. Also left to cherish his memory are his sister, Linda Hancock, his mother-in-law, Charlotte Tyra, who he lovingly called “Mama”, and many more family members and friends.
