David Syth Obituary

David L. Syth, of McLoud, Oklahoma, passed from this life on January 9, 2021, at the age of 66.  He was born July 23, 1954, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Earl Leslie & Patricia Leola (Orr) Syth.

David was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Bethel Acres, and before that, he was a member at Spencer United Methodist Church, where he had attended from the time he was a little boy, growing up there and having many responsibilities, such as groundskeeper, finance chairman, and was a music director there.

David loved all types of music and was extremely talented, having played the piano, keyboard, and trumpet.  He was a member of a few bands, such as Squatty and the Botties, Quantum 50, and Miss Kitty and the Classics.  David had played in the band since high school and was Drum Major.  He attended Star Spencer High School and was a graduate of the Class of 1972.  His passion for music was with him from the time he was a very young boy until he went to be with the Lord.

Following high school, David worked at the Union Bus Station in Downtown OKC, then worked for Dr. Pepper, Tinker Air Force Base, and lastly, he was Senior Electronic Technician at FAA and retired in 2015 after 36 years of service.  David had a passion for building radio-controlled model airplanes, cars, helicopters, and boats, and he tediously made exact replicas from each one to the very last detail.  He was extremely talented and detail-oriented and yearned for knowledge.

David enjoyed scuba diving and boating, especially at Shawnee Twin Lakes.  He loved animals and became an animal rescuer, and he had developed a love for cats – he and Sonya became “the cat couple.”  David loved Sci-Fi, reading, history, and had a wealth of knowledge and respect for World War II, which he loved discussing facts related to it.  He was extremely intelligent and had an amazing vocabulary.  David was always striving to learn new things.

He loved telling jokes and was quite the jokester.  David never met a stranger and loved visiting and talking to people. He enjoyed going out to eat, traveling with Sonya, going on cruises, and spending time with friends and family.  David was extremely close to his son, Jeremy and they had a wonderful relationship.  He was very optimistic and always young at heart.  When David and Sonya reconnected, he told everyone that he was “living his best life.”  They were married on April 27, 2019, in Bethel Acres.  David was an amazing father, husband, brother, uncle, and friend, and his memory will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him for all time.

To cherish his memory is his loving wife, Sonya Syth, of the home in McLoud; his beloved son, Jeremy Syth and husband, Bobby Syth, of Norman; 2 sisters, Kathy Rasch & husband, Keith, of Harrah, and Lisa West, of Shawnee; 2 sisters-in-law, DeCarla Slovinski & husband, Carl, of Edmond, and Sheila Jordan & husband, Jimmy, of Tecumseh; 12 nieces and nephews; and a host of great-nieces and nephews, as well as great-great-nieces and nephews; and many other loving family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl & Patricia Syth; brother, Danny Syth; and great-nephew, Rayden French.
