David Fox Sr. Obituary

David Owen Fox Sr. of Norman, Oklahoma, was born in Fairfax, Missouri, on June 25, 1928, to Leander Jackson Fox and Beaunice Spencer. On Sunday, May 21, David passed away from this life at the age of 94. David was a dedicated and faithful member of the Calvary Free Will Baptist Church in Norman.

As a young man, David heard his country’s call and joined the United States Navy, serving his country during World War II. David served on the USS Lexington as an Electrician mate and received the World War II Victory Medal during his time in the Navy. He received an honorable discharge for services rendered to his country when called upon to do so.

After marrying his first wife, Ella Jean, David went to work for North American Aviation, starting out in the mail room and working his way up to the position of contract negotiator. He retired from the aerospace manufacturing company after 32 years of dedicated service. From the time he was very young, David excelled at writing and grew to be an incredible poet. A collection of David’s beautiful poetry was eventually published in a book entitled Seasons of the Heart.

David was passionate about serving and pastoring to fellow Veterans. After his retirement, David became the President of the Board of Directors for Chamberlin House. He led Bible studies and proudly served as Chaplain at the Norman Veterans’ Center for over 20 years. A few years after Ella Jean passed away, David found love again and married his second wife, Marty, on September 13, 1986, in a lovely ceremony in Albany, Oregon.

David was articulate, neat, disciplined, and patriotic. He had an incredible work ethic, always giving everything he did 150%. He was creative and intelligent, and a perfectionist whose work was always flawless and pristine. He had a kind, loving, and charming personality with a caring and compassionate heart, especially for his fellow man. He was a master gardener and landscaper, and he enjoyed cooking, photography, and watching sports, especially L.A. Dodgers baseball and OU football. He also enjoyed watching educational programming and often watched documentaries and loved watching 60 Minutes every Sunday evening. David’s first love was always his Lord and Savior, and of course, his family. He and Marty loved traveling together and enjoyed excursions to the mountains to snow ski, and the couple loved bowling and going out to dinner often. David cherished every moment he spent with those he loved, and he will be very deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of 31 years, Ella Jean Fox, one daughter, Lorraine Marie Myers, and one brother, Raymond Dean Fox.

Left to treasure his memory are his loving wife of 37 years, Marty Fox, of the home; seven children, Christine Wofford and husband Ron of San Luis Obispo, California, Jeannene Wade and husband Mike of Norman, Oklahoma, Kathleen Hill and husband Paul of Yukon, Oklahoma, Kelly Fox of Edmond, Oklahoma, Nicole Fox of Bethany, Oklahoma, David Owen Fox Jr. and wife Debbie of Lemoore, California, and Samuel Parker Fox of Aiken, South Carolina. David is also survived by many more loving family members and dear friends.
