Obituary

Corey Thomas Batey of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the age of 41. Corey was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Edith Renee Whitlock and Ronald Batey on July 24, 1982.

Corey attended Midwest City High School. After high school, he heard his country’s call and joined the United States Army, and later, the Army National Guard. Corey served tours in Egypt, Kuwait, and Iraq, earning several medals, ribbons, and accolades including the National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Multinational Force and Observers Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal. He was honorably discharged in September of 2009 after proudly and honorably serving his country for over eight years.

Corey was a manager at Van’s Pig Stand in Purcell, Oklahoma. Previously, he worked for IHOP in Norman. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and going to the lake. His greatest passion was darts, and Corey was a talented dart player who competed in tournaments and was once recognized as the third best in the state of Oklahoma.

Outgoing, ornery, and an appreciator of all things funny, Corey loved to laugh and make other people feel good. He was a kind person with a generous heart. He enjoyed cooking and listening to music, and he was known for his amazing barbeque. He loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his daughters, and his girlfriend, Sierra. Corey and Sierra enjoyed date nights, concerts, and simply just being at home together in each other’s company.

He was a loving father, son, stepson, brother, uncle, and friend, who touched the lives of many with his zest for life, his incredible sense of humor, and the true love he showed to the people in his life. Corey will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Edith Renee Whitlock.

Left to treasure his memory are two daughters, Scarlett Brice, of the home, and Persephone Hall of Choctaw, Oklahoma; his father, Ronald Batey, and stepmother DeRonda Watford; two sisters, Sarah Caudle of Georgia, and Courtney Atkins of Norman, Oklahoma, and his brothers, Christopher Wilds of Holdenville, Oklahoma, and Chad Barrow of Moore, Oklahoma; along with his niece River Wilds, and several more loving family members and many loyal friends.
