Clethal Janet was born in the home of her grandparents in Wetumka, Oklahoma, March 4th, 1930, the second of four children of Ernest and Leah Banta. She attended Pleasant Ridge and Fairview High School where she graduated as Valedictorian of her class. It was at Fairview that she met the love of her life, Benjamin Powell. They were married in August 1947. She and Ben had three children: Karen Janet, George David, and Benjamin Lee, while Ben served in the Air Force. She attended the Church of Christ and was a faithful member teaching in both Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
Clethal had a passion for learning, was a hard worker, and in her later years, a tireless volunteer earning many hourly milestones as a volunteer at the hospital in Anadarko, Oklahoma and at Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation in Oklahoma City. She was a great hostess and cook, when anyone came to visit with her, she always had food available.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Karen, son George, husband Ben, and brother Cloyce. She is survived by her son Ben Powell, his wife Jeanne, their children Alex and her husband Ryan McCabe, Brett, Peyton and her husband Nathan Lalli, son-in-law, Ron Tate, granddaughter Kerri, her husband Andrew Williams and their son Thomas, her sisters Jennie Lou and her husband Kenneth Woodrum and family, Ernestine and her husband David Tillman and family.
