Clara Ann Bailey-Roy was born to Rosie and Gordon Baily on August 18, 1940, on a farm. Her family worked the farm, and her job was plowing the ground – John Deere did not come to her rescue, oh no. Clara only had a wooden plow and her bare hands – one can only imagine. She was also required to pick cotton. This allowed the family to survive, and they did. Clara was a valued basketball player in high school, and she graduated with honors, of course.
Her Prince Charming came along – a Navy man! James Edward Roy. They married and started a family of five, Debbie, Loretta, Randy, Danny, and Cheryl. Clara was an excellent homemaker and always kept her home and her children clean and immaculate. Her kitchen was a much-enjoyed haven for Clara, she was head and shoulders above the rest. Her very creative and delicious dishes always kept her dinner guests licking their lips. Her cooking was magical. Clara always put her children first, taking them to school events, softball, football, PTA, Brownies and Girl Scouts – the list never ended! Clara had healing arms and hands, her youngest daughter Cheryl had a heart condition and had many surgeries, and Clara’s amazing healing abilities kept her alive. After all her children left home and Clara was an empty nester, she enjoyed gardening, taking care of her indoor plants, and playing Soduku. She especially liked watching her soaps. However, everyone who knew Clara knew to never call or come over when Dancing With The Stars was on. She was absolutely mesmerized by that show.
Clara, forever a proud mother of five, will now go be with her mom, dad, daughter Cheryl, and Jesus in Heaven. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will miss her until they meet again in Heaven.
What Mother Means
“Mother” is such a simple word
But to me there’s meaning seldom heard
For everything I am today
My mother’s love showed me the way
I’ll love my mother all my days
For enriching my life in so many ways
She set me straight and then set me free and
That’s what the word “Mother” means to me
