Charles Jones Obituary

Charles Kenneth Jones of Blanchard, Oklahoma passed away on July 29, 2021, at the age of 93 years old.  He was born on November 27, 1927, to Clyde and Mary Jones, née Ramsey.

His loving wife, Avalon, preceded him in death June 12, 2018.  They married July 22, 1947, and began a wonderful life journey, working together, raising 3 children, loving 16 grandchildren and their spouses, and adoring 20 great-grandchildren and their spouses.

He grew up on a farm and loved horses and dogs, but not so much “farming.”  He and his family moved to south Oklahoma City in 1951.

Kenneth gave his life to Christ at the age of 33.  He became a Master Mason in 1954 to the Blue Myrtle Lodge.  In 1986, he joined the Guthrie Scottish Rite, and later that same year, joined the India Shrine Temple where he served in the uniformed unit, Director’s Staff.  He was a Past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star from 1990 to 1991.  His volunteering included coaching little league baseball, fundraising for the Shriners, Masons, and his children’s school functions.

Throughout his life, Kenneth worked in a variety of occupations.  He began in Oklahoma as a farmer, then spent time in Oregon as a logger.  After moving back to Oklahoma City, he married Avalon and took up his primary occupation as a welder.  He worked at Spring Lake Amusement Park as a security guard, at concessions, and in the famous Fun House.  After retirement, he moved on to real estate; front door monitor at the Fair Grounds’ Coliseum; Modern Woodman Insurance Monitor; and a Cleveland County Election Board Precinct Inspector.

Kenneth was known as a storyteller and a witty communicator.  He loved all babies, little children, dogs, and horses.  He was a huge OU fan, and he and Avalon attended all football games for years.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Avalon; parents, Clyde and Mary; sister, Rowena; brother, Harry; son-in-law, Greg Moffatt; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He is survived by his daughter, Mary Ellen and her husband, Bob; daughter, Charlotte; son, Buddy and his wife, Marsha; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at Southpark Baptist Church, 2900 SW 119th Street, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  There will be a lunch afterward; everyone is invited.  Funeral services will also be streamed online through John M.
