Bobby Griffitts, 88 of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away on May 7, 2022. Bobby was born in Willow, Oklahoma, to James Oliver and Ruby Roberta Griffitts on March 16, 1934. He attended school in Gracemont, Oklahoma, graduating from Gracemont High School with the Class of 1953.
As a young man, Bobby heard his country’s call and enlisted in the United States Marines, serving during the Korean conflict as a Private First Class, playing an important role as a gunner on mortars, known in the Marines as a Mortarman. After leaving the service with an honorable discharge, he became a truck driver for Safeway, working for the company for many years, driving trucks in both Oklahoma and California.
Bobby was an accomplished athlete in his early life. He was an outstanding baseball and softball player, and his talent and ambidexterity gave him an edge over his teammates. He enjoyed calf-roping in his younger years, as well as chicken fighting and horse racing. Later in life, you could often find him outside in his yard, tending to his vegetable garden. Bobby touched the lives of many, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Jean Griffitts, a son, Alan Griffitts, one brother, James Griffitts Jr., his mother, Ruby Roberta (Blakley) Griffitts, his father, James Oliver Griffitts, and a son-in-law, Tim Hutto.
