Betty Jean (Wade) Eastep

January 16, 1930 - September 23, 2020

Betty Jean (Wade) Eastep was born in Talihina, Oklahoma on January 16, 1930. Her father was Malcolm Delos Wade Sr., born in Wadeville, Indian Territory and her mother was Lucille “Lucy” (Cenotto) Wade, born in Poteau, Oklahoma.  She was preceded in death by 1 sister and 2 brothers:  Margaret Pauline Wade, Malcolm Delos Wade, Jr. and James Leroy Wade.

Betty attended 1st through 12th grade in Talihina Public Schools.  In high school, she was a member of the glee club, pep club and the Sextet singing group.  She was also a very good athlete and lettered four years in basketball and softball.  Betty was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Talihina and graduated from Talihina High School in 1948.

After graduation, Betty moved to Oklahoma City and was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company from 1948 to 1958 and then took a leave of absence to raise her children.  In 1963, the family moved to Norman where she was employed by Moore Public Schools in food services from 1971 to 1992. Betty loved her time together with family and friends watching OU football and cheering on the OKC Thunder.  She enjoyed playing all sorts of games including Trivial Pursuit, Scrabble, cards and dominoes. Betty married Johnny Vernon Eastep Sr. on May 30, 1952 in Yukon, Oklahoma.  From this union, three children were born, Johnny Vernon Eastep Jr., Rebecca Louise (Eastep) Fleming and Michael Wade Eastep.  Grandchildren include:  Lonathan Chance Morgan born to Johnny Vernon Eastep Jr. and Karen Morgan; Brianna Michelle (Fleming) Burnell born to Jimmy and Rebecca (Eastep) Fleming.  Step grandchildren include David Mellor and Melissa Schutte.  Betty has four great grandchildren, Taylor Morgan and Tristan Morgan born to Lonathan Chance Morgan; Charlotte Grace Burnell and Elizabeth Mae Burnell born to Brianna Michelle (Fleming) Burnell and Joe Burnell.  Step great grandchildren include Amanda Reitz, Ashley Nouri, Haidyn Darr, Dustin Mellor, Logan Schutte, Rachel Schutte, Brinley Schutte.  Step great, great grandchildren include Garrett Darr and Braylon Darr. Betty was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Moore, Oklahoma from 1964 until 2011 when the church had to close its doors.  She has been a member of the First United Methodist Church of Moore, Oklahoma since September 11, 2011.
