Anita Augustine Obituary

Anita May Augustine of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, graced us with her presence when she was born on December 12, 1938. Anita was born in Dixon, Missouri, to Louise Patton and Opal (Campbell) Monett. On May 16, 2023, she departed this world at the age of 84.

Stubborn as all get out, Anita lived her life by her rules and always how she saw fit. Known for her tenacious, spitfire personality, Anita never sugar-coated much of anything. You never once had to guess what was on her mind, because she always boldly told you exactly how she felt. She had a green thumb and loved to plant flowers and work in her garden. Later in life, she tried her hand at growing vegetables and was quite successful, but the vegetables rarely made it to the dinner table because let’s face it – she was not the best cook. Much to the chagrin of her entire family, Anita had absolutely no concept of seasonings or spices, and her specialties – mac and cheese and chicken – were always bland, dry, and tasteless.

Anita never obtained a driver’s license, mostly because there wasn’t a soul on earth brave enough to sit shotgun. The few times she was behind the wheel, the mailbox down the road needed to be replaced. She loved to talk and spent hours each day socializing with her neighbors. More than anything, Anita loved talking to her family. She was all about family, and they were her everything. Her greatest wish was for everyone to get along and enjoy life – on their own terms. Anita will be deeply missed.

Anita is preceded in death by her mom, Opal, her father, Louie, and her husband, John Augustine.

Left to cherish her memory are many loving family members, including her children, James Cannon and wife Carol of Missouri, Roy D. Cannon of Oklahoma City, Ethel (Missy) Cannon of Missouri, Richard Cannon of Oklahoma City, Margaret Dron and spouse Parris of Oklahoma City, and Wilma Cannon, also of Missouri. Anita is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, a host of great-great grandchildren, and many more loving family members and friends.
