Alta Crenshaw Obituary

Alta Mae Crenshaw, née Bennett of Yukon, Oklahoma was born in Gowan, Oklahoma on January 26, 1940, to William Kenneth Bennett and Naomi Ruth Wilson.  Alta left this world to join her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at the age of 81 years old.

While her husband Gene was the love Alta’s life in this world, Alta’s first love was her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Alta enjoyed reading her Bible and was dedicated to her church, Liberty Worship Center in Oklahoma City. She and Gene enjoyed going to church together, as well as going fishing out on Lake Thunderbird, Little River, and Lake Overholser.

Alta was quite the seamstress and enjoyed quilting and sewing, often while watching an old episode of Doc or I Love Lucy.  She also enjoyed going to garage sales.  Everyone knew her to be frugal and smart with her money; she knew how to save a dime.

Alta’s favorite team was the Oklahoma City Thunder, and one of her highlights in life was when her daughter, Freda took her to a Thunder game and got her a seat courtside.  She was able to see Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Hardin up close.  Her favorite player was Number 9 Serge “The Surge” Ibaka.

Alta was a kind, loving person with a warm, caring heart.  A graduate of Wilburton High School, she worked for the Oklahoma City Public Schools for several years in the cafeteria.  During her time at Roosevelt Middle School, many of the students came to know her and lovingly referred to her as “Grandma.”

Alta was straightforward.  You always knew where she stood on issues.  She was a hard worker and a good homemaker.  She always worked hard to provide for her family.  Alta was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  Her favorite thing in this world was being with her family.  In particular, she loved being with her grandchildren; she adored watching them and being with them.  Alta touched the hearts of many and will be forever missed by all who knew her.

Alta was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; and her sisters, Lavada Edwards and Wanda Allen.  She is survived by her daughter, Freda Jean Arterbury and her husband, Mike; daughter, Rita Morris and her husband, Lee of Yukon; daughter, Teresa Ann Myers of Dale, Oklahoma; son, Alex Crenshaw of Oklahoma City; her brother, Bill Bennett; seven grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
