Arlene Brown Obituary

Beloved matriarch Arlene Brown, resident of Norman/South Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away from this life on March 25, 2024, at the age of 85. Born Arlene Ruth Scannell on June 30, 1938, she was the daughter of Paul and Mabel Scannell, both of whom have preceded her in death. She is also preceded by her daughter, Samera Venner; husbands, Carl Plumley and Cecil Brown; her sister, Carol Grinnell, and her brother, Paul Scannell.

Arlene leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by three children, son, Terry Plumley and wife DiAnna; and daughters, Lisa Grinnell and husband Ray; and Dawn Chamness and husband Ron; along with nine grandchildren: Sean, Summer, Ashley, Blythe, Tori, Joe, Hyla, Karissa, and Trevor. Arlene is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren (and one on the way); two brothers, Hank Taylor, and Rick Taylor; and many more loved ones and friends.

Described as a "spitfire" by those who knew her best, Arlene was the kind of lady who wanted what she wanted and preferred to do things her own way. Never one to leave the house without looking presentable, Arlene enjoyed accessorizing her outfits and looking her best. She loved to play dominoes, and of course, in true Arlene fashion, played by her own rules. As a lifelong animal lover, she always seemed to have a little dog and a bird by her side. Over the years had so many special bonds with her chihuahuas, especially Chico, Cricket, and most recently, Tammi.

Arlene enjoyed spending time in her garden, tending to her flowers and vegetables, and she also loved to cook for her family. She especially loved making fun-shaped pancakes for the grandkids and was known for her amazing lasagna and Christmas cookies. When dining out, she enjoyed visiting Tarahumara's Mexican restaurant, where she loved the food and liked to relax with a nice sangria.

Most of all, she enjoyed spending quality time with the people she loved. The love and devotion Arlene poured into her family knew no bounds. She looked forward to celebrating special occasions and never missed sending a birthday card. Her cherished grandchildren certainly held a special place in her heart. She treasured every moment spent with them and enjoyed spoiling them rotten with sweets and cookies, and always doing anything and everything they wanted to do.

As we reflect on the life of Arlene Ruth Brown, let us remember her for the love she bestowed upon her family, and for her unwavering commitment to the things that brought her joy. Her legacy will live on through the recipes she perfected, the memories she created. Arlene will forever remain in our hearts reminding us to savor each day and find delight in the simple pleasures that bring us together. She will be deeply missed.
