Thomas Homer “Tom” Blackburn, 78 of Oklahoma City, OK, passed away on April 12, 2017. He was born on February 14, 1939, in St. Louis, Missouri to Homer Ellis and Mable (Henry) Blackburn.
Tom heard his country’s call and proudly served in the United States Army, receiving an honorable discharge for services rendered to his country when called upon to do so. He worked as an automobile upholsterer and owned his own upholstery business, T&M Auto Upholstery, for many years. Tom married the love of his life, Marilyn Flieger, July 10, 1969, in St. Louis, Missouri. They were married for 48 years. Supporting his fellow veterans through tough times was important to Tom, and he was a service officer for many years at the V.F.W. and volunteered often at the V.A. He was also a Mason. Tom liked collecting coins and enjoyed playing Pogo and other games on his computer. One of his favorite snacks was a big bowl of popcorn. Tom loved his grandkids dearly, and adored them so much he would get them anything they wanted! He loved to watch them ride dirt bikes and four-wheelers. Tom also enjoyed listening to country music, especially anything by Lee Greenwood, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton and Patsy Cline.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Blackburn, of the home in Oklahoma City; his 4 children with Marilyn, Glen Blackburn and wife Melinda, of Oklahoma City, Lyn Walker of Choctaw, Robert Blackburn of Oklahoma City, and Jeff Blackburn and wife Jennifer, of Oklahoma City; 3 children from a previous marriage, Tommy Blackburn, Kelly Love, and Dina Robertson; 6 grandchildren, Zachary, Jeffrey, Jr., Joni, Victoria, Holly and Alyssa; many other loving family members and friends; and his beloved dog, Patches, and cat, Mr. Snickerfits.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Mable; sister, Jeannie Stiff; close friends, “Rabbit” and Tom Lumley and numerous other friends from the V.F.W.
