05-Jul-2018

Russell Leonard January, age 59, passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2018. He was born on April 6, 1959 in Oklahoma City to Leonard and Jennie (Teasley) January. He graduated from Moore High School in 1977, and soon started to work for KF Industries, where he stayed for over 20 years before accepting a new job at Kimray.

Russell truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; tinkering with any electronics he could get his hands on, going to star parties and air shows, grabbing a bite to eat at the Catfish Cove with friends, reading various books on his tablet, and being forced to play “school” with his instructor, Miss McKinleigh. Russell loved funky rock n' roll and once played in a band back in his “cool, young days” (as he would call them). At any social gathering you could always find Russell behind a bulky, black camera taking pictures of everyone, and sipping on McDonalds sweet tea. Russell had a quick-witted personality and the ability to turn any situation into a joke and always left people smiling and laughing with his unique sense of humor.

Russell is survived by his mother, Jennie January; his daughter, Landra Castaneda and husband Enrique; his three grandchildren, McKinleigh January, Dheigo Castaneda and Darrio Castaneda; and his sister Anne Means and husband Rick; along with many nieces and nephews. Family, friends, and others whose lives Russell touched are invited to join us for a memorial service at the Lynlee Mae Chapel at 507 E Main Street, Moore OK starting at 1:00pm on Saturday, July 14th 2018. Immediately after the service there will be time for friends and family to visit and reminisce.

In lieu of flowers, make sure to brush your teeth, Russell was always nagging about it.

I have so many wonderful memories of Russell. I am very grateful to be fortunate enough to have had him in my life for 30 years. He will truly be missed. He was a great man and even better father.
