LaWana Arlene Ball, 10:30 AM, Thursday, October 12, 2017


LaWana Arlene Ball, age 69 of Moore, Oklahoma, passed away on October. 7, 2017. She was born November 5, 1947 to Everett and Nadine Willis.

LaWana attended Southeast High School, and then received her Bachelor’s Degree at Central State University. LaWana worked for Southwestern Bell in telecommunications until her retirement. After retiring from SWB, she went on to work at the University of Oklahoma where she retired from the athletic department in 2010. LaWana was a dedicated church member of First Baptist Church of Moore. She was director of a Life Group, Lucy Ladies, and also a member of Frank and Friends. LaWana enjoyed reading her Bible.

She also enjoyed shopping and was a big OU Sooners fan and was a season ticket holder for OU football, women’s and men’s basketball. She and Gerald even traveled with the team to their games. They also enjoyed woman’s OU softball. LaWana enjoyed watching “Friends” and “CSI.” Her favorite movie was “Independence Day,” and she watched movies on disasters. LaWana was a kind and sweet person with a loving gentle heart. She was fiercely independent and you always knew where she stood on issues and she could handle any situation. LaWana’s daughter-in-law, Lisa said her mother-in-law was a very giving person and would go out of her way to help anyone in need.

Her first love was her Lord and Savior, being with Gerald, the love of her life for 47 years, spending time with her son and daughter-in-law, and especially being with her grandchildren.

LaWana is survived by her husband of 47 years, Gerald; son, Brian Ball and wife, Lisa; 2 grandchildren, Mackenzie and Brayden; dad, Dave McClain; sister, Debra Leftwich; and brother, David Joe; and special sister-in-law, Connie Ball. She is preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Debbie Taylor.

Funeral Services are 10:30 AM, Thurs., Oct. 12, 2017 at MooreFirst Baptist Church, 301 NE 27th St., Moore, Oklahoma. Interment to follow to Sunset Memorial Park, 2301 E. Indian Hills Rd., in Norman, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home, Moore, Oklahoma.

My prayers are with you all in this time of grievance. I spent a lot of time growing up in the Ball household and Mrs. Ball was always so good to me. She was so caring and loving.
