James Edward Fernandes, 11:00 AM, Friday, September 7, 2018


James Edward Fernandes, of Oklahoma City, passed away August 31, 2018, at the age of 82.  He was born February 26, 1936, in Erie, Pennsylvania, to Maurice & Mary (Magill) Fernandes.

James heard his country’s call and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, where he received the National Defense Service medal, Good Conduct medal and an Honorable Discharge for services rendered to his country when called upon to do so.  He retired from Tinker Air Force Base as a production equipment procurement specialist with over 37 years of service.  James was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, in Norman.  He enjoyed cars and restoring them, especially Mustangs.  James enjoyed going to car shows.  He was an avid golfer and he enjoyed meeting up with his golf buddies on Tinker AFB golf course.  He enjoyed taking his family to the lake home at Eufaula and going out on the boat.  James was charismatic, outgoing, and funny and you always knew where he stood on issues.  He had a loving and caring heart.  His first love was being with his wife, Linda, his family and, and especially his grandchildren. 

James is survived by his wife, Linda Fernandes, of the home; 2 daughters & their husbands, Michelle & Tim Terhune, of Oklahoma City, and Gina & Michael Staggs, of Tulsa; grandchildren & their spouses, Patrick & Amy Terhune, Nick & Amanda Terhune, Dylan & Kodie Terhune, Colton & Sibel Staggs, and Kylie Staggs; great-grandchildren, Jamie Terhune, Aiden Terhune, Reis Terhune, Boston Terhune, Landon Terhune, and Aria Staggs; brother, Bobby Fernandes, of Florida; and sister, Carol Huey, of Erie, Pennsylvania.He is preceded in death by his parents, Maurice & Mary Fernandes; and siblings, Maurice “Junior” Fernandes, and Marge Zimmerman.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 7, 2018, in the chapel of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home, located at 120 South Broadway, in Moore, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home.

What a beautiful and thoughtful tribute to a very fun loving and wonderful man. I always loved when you would come in to see us at work. You never failed to make us laugh. I miss you already and how much you loved your beautiful Linda and family.
