Gwendolyn Joy Garner, 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 21, 2018



Gwendolyn Joy Garner, age 95, moved peacefully from this life to her heavenly home on March 15, 2018.

A cowgirl from Oklahoma, she went on to be a pilot, telephone operator, cash register repairman, secretary, accountant, Dean of Women at Johnson University, Bible Teacher, and children’s worker. Gwen was happiest being a mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her sons, Spencer and Stuart; daughter, Susan Barger; grandchildren, Hope Hixson, Lydia Pitner, April Barger, Joy Waters, James Barger, Rebekah Harding, Aaron Garner, Laura Tonini, Jeb Garner, and Victoria Garner; great-grandchildren, Courtney Wilkerson, Conner Wilkerson, Kennedy Wilkerson, Naomi East, Luke Hixson, Jared Hixson, Garner Pitner, Mae Pitner, Kai Tonini, Ava Tonini, Elle Tonini, Ezra Waters, Halle Waters, Silas Waters, Lila Harding, and River Harding.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Johnson University, 7900 Johnson Dr. Knoxville, TN 37998. Funeral Service will be held 7:00 PM Monday, March 19, 2018 at First Christian Church of Maryville, Minister Gary Henline and Minister David Eubanks officiating.

There will be a viewing Tuesday evening, March 20, 2018 from 6:00 – 9:00 PM at John Ireland Funeral Home Chapel.There will also be a funeral service at the chapel of John Ireland Funeral Home 120 S. Broadway, Moore, Ok at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 21, 2018.Interment to follow at Moore City Cemetery in Moore, Oklahoma.

A very special cousin who will be missed. We loved conversations and letters from her. She lived a full life.

Gwen was a wonderful person. I have many memories of her in our younger years when she was living in Oklahoma. She will be missed.

I remember her as being vivacious and full of life: a real "what's next" kind of person. What a wonderful gift to have had her in your lives for so long.
