Gene Carrier passed away at home on Thursday, July 5, 2018, after a long illness. Throughout his life, Gene had a positive attitude and, although extremely ill, made jokes about his care right until the day before he passed.  He loved those he met and worked with, and was loved and respected by numerous people.

Gene was extremely proud of his military service during WWII on Okinawa.He was on Flight #5 of the Honor Flights for America’s greatest generation.

He was also proud of being an owner of the Carrier Oil & Propane Company, County Assessor for Garfield County, Director of the Dept. of Human Services for Garfield County, and his 10-year service as United States Marshal for the Western District of Oklahoma.

His hobbies included running and singing.  He was a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society for 70 years, and served as its director for many years.He was also a member of the American Legion Post #4 of Enid for 70 years.  Membership of the Carrier Congregational Church of Carrier, Oklahoma, and the First United Methodist Church of Moore was also an important part of Gene’s life. 

Gene was preceded in death by his step-son, John Alexander.  He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Maude; and his children, Christi Crowder and Stan & Cheryl Carrier, all of Oklahoma City; as well as Nancy & James McDonald, of Georgia; also his grandchildren, Travis & Jenna Crowder, Landon Carrier, Chelsea Koger, Jared Carrier, and Jessica Anderson, of OKC, Jennifer & Rowan White, Jeffrey & Amy McDonald, of Georgia, and Emily & Craig Shaffer, of Virginia.

Visitation will be held from 5pm-9pm, Saturday, July 7th and 1:30pm-9pm, Sunday, July 8th, at the John M. Ireland Funeral Home, located at 120 South Broadway, in Moore, OK.  Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, July 9, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church, of Moore, 201 W. Main Street, Moore, OK.  Interment will be held at 2:00 PM, at Rose Hill Cemetery, Carrier, OK.  Services are under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home & Chapel, Moore, OK.

I worked for the Garfield County DHS many years and during the time he was director. I always had high regard for him and thought he and Maud were the nicest looking couple. For several years I received the nicest hand written Christmas greeting from him but they stopped coming. He was a good man.
