Ernest "Sunny" J. Bartels III, 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 11, 2018


Ernest (Sunny) J. Bartels III, born Nov 1, 1941 in OKC, passed from this life on Friday June 29th 2018. Sunny as he was known to many, worked in the commercial refrigeration business for more than 40 years. Through those years he was self-employed and did contract work with Love’s Stores. When not working, which was not often, he enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing and reading western books. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lillie Bartels, siblings Mary Ann Guy-Baty, Lillie Grace Bartels, and Ronald Bartels, along with his first wife Ruth Ann (Kitten) Bartels, and sons Harold Bartels, James Hahn, Steven Hahn and David Lee Riley. He is survived by his wife Jackie of Guthrie, children Jaye Bartels and wife Dana, Laura Long and husband James, and Stacy Stice and husband Steve along with nine grandchildren, two great granddaughters, nephews Donald Guy, Bruce Guy and wife Linda along with lots of great nieces, great nephews and numerous other family members and friends. He was a stand in father and grandfather to many and lovingly known as Papa Sunny. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Memorial service will be held on July 11, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Calvery Temple Church 1801 S. Kelley, Edmond, Ok. There will be a viewing on Tuesday and Thursday, July 3 & 5 from 9-9 at the John Ireland Funeral Home.

He was a great role model to David Lee. He spent a lot of time in our home while David was alive. Had it not been for him David would not have known the Commercial Refrigeration trade. His life holds many memories for me and my children. May God give you the peace that passes all understanding and remind you often of those wonderful memorial you hold close in your heart.
