Edward Durward Jones, 4:0 PM, Saturday, August 4, 2018


Edward Durward Jones, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away August 1, 2018, at the age of 88.  He was born January 6, 1930, in Tellico Plains, Tennessee, to Edward Chesley & Maude (Fricks) Jones. 

Edward proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, for two years from 1951-1953 as an Ammunitions Specialist.  Edward worked as a transmission mechanic for 40 years.  He refurbished antique radios.  Edward enjoyed woodworking and made clocks, furniture, buffets, and china closets.  He loved to get on Facebook.  Edward played the mandolin and was a member of the Greater Oklahoma Bluegrass Music Society as well as the Antique Radio Club.  He enjoyed traveling to his homestead in the Tennessee mountains.  Edward raised Arabian horses and liked to go on trail rides.  He also enjoyed going to the gun range.  His first love was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Edward is survived by 2 sons, Roger Jones, and Donald Jones & fiancée Susan Thompson; 5 grandchildren, Jeremy Jones & wife, Synthia, Sarah Jones, Josh Moomaw, Johnny McNeil, and Jason McNeil; 5 great-grandchildren, Jarred Moomaw, Sean Moomaw, Esther Jones, Jahzalayn McNeil, and Ahazalyn McNeil; 7 siblings, Virgil Jones & wife, Margaret, Eva Nida & husband, Carl, Rex Jones & wife, Alene, Wanda Jones, Glenda Hyatt & husband, Roger, Dorothy Jones, and Kenneth Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many other loving family members and friends. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward & Stella Jones; his wife, Esther Ellen Jones; 2 daughters, Debbie Jones and Karen Sue McNeil; 3 siblings, Edith Lindner, Nolan Jones, and Jimmy Jones.

Funeral Services for Edward will be held at 4:00 PM, Saturday, August 4, 2018, at Southpointe Church, located at 13300 Straka Farm Rd., in Oklahoma City. Edward will be laid to rest in Sterling Illinois. Services are under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home & Chapel, Moore, OK.

Dad’s big brother has come to see him again! When we were kids, I remember how happy dad was when Ed and family came to Tennessee for a visit. I will always remember Ed as a wonderful person and a wonderful uncle. Roger and Don, it was wonderful seeing you and Ed in Pacifica. You are in our hearts. Doug & Margo
